Disconcerning Or Disconcerting?

The word that at least sounds like ‘disconcerning’ can be heard on a normal basis. Shouldn’t it be ‘disconcerting’ instead of this other term, if we are to be correct? Let’s turn to a plausible explanation if we may.

Is disconcerning even a word? Dictionary.com does not list this word. A website that I found explains that “disconcerning is a nonsense word.”

Dictionary.com lists a word named disconcerting and its meaning: 1. (adjective) disturbing to one’s composure or self-possession; upsetting, discomfiting.

If we are to express ourselves properly, we should use the word disconcerting, and forget the other word that does not exist. I find it disconcerting that we use the wrong term. Don’t you? Maybe you find it disquieting

Actually, Disconcern is a word or, rather, two words. Disconcerning, Discerning and Concerning : This odd word looks like it might be an error for “disconcerting,” but people who use it seem mostly to mean something like “discerning” (perceiving) or “concerning” (in the sense “of concern,” itself widely considered an error).

I just got in a huge argument over my made up word disconcerning. I really meant nonconcern. I could have used the word disconcerting. So close in spelling andpronounciation.

I find it disconcerting that this is even a word. By definition, it means troubling, or unsettling. So why not just say…troubling or unsettling? What is the point of this word?
