It’s phenomenal that some say the economy is blossoming and the jobless rate is the lowest that it has been in 5 years. Hold on to that thought because another phenomenon is occurring; an incredible amount of Americans have simply stopped looking for employment. The unemployed are being shuffled into another category—the invisible.
“After years of frustrating fits and starts after the financial crisis and the Great Recession, the US job market finally appears to be on a path of steady but sustainable improvement. The unemployment rate in November fell to its lowest level since the end of 2008.”
On a more dismal note, food assistance is higher than it has been in decades.
“A record 47.8 million people are enrolled in the program despite the recession’s end and a stronger economy.”
Ostensibly there is a new paradigm in the way the economy is being tracked. Obviously a slant is being reported when there is a real problem that cannot be hidden, while millions of productive Americans would like to find honest paying jobs, yet the reality of it is another matter.
The Great Recession should be more properly named the Great Experiment. Where will this Great Experiment lead to? Nearly 50 million jobless or underemployed people with very little hope of improvement, and the stronger economy garners encouraging gains.
