Here is one way you can always win and not lose your customers.
Is your company listening? No seriously. Does your business really understand the customer’s needs? There’s one thing to be certain, at least in the United States — as the suggestion box keeps dying, customer service is bound to die with it.
I’m apalled at such poor business practices in America. Customer service seems to be a relic of the past. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few businesses that do get it. I salute you. There a great number of them that don’t have a clue.
Monopolization is destroying America. It’s no wonder big business is getting such bad publicity these days. While I’m tempted to use corporate names, I won’t, because it’s not polite. Here’s why I say this in a constructive manner.
Here’s how my (simulated but not exaggerated) day went yesterday. I started off paying the electric bill in the local area. The secretary treated me as if I was an alien from another planet. Cause: the only electric company in town. They weren’t listening.
I later made it to one of the largest department stores in the country. I was window shopping, so I continued to browse in the store. Very few sales people were to be found. I wonder what would’ve happened if I really needed to ask a question. They weren’t listening.
I later decided to stop and grab a bite at one of my favorite nationally owned restaurants. I’ve eaten there dozens of times and I’ve had some great experiences. But I’ve noticed lately how things have changed. The cashiers out front are chatting and being unresponsive. They’re not listening.
My original stop was at the doctor’s office. I’m happy to report that I’ve finally found some good doctors that are listening. There’s quite a number of them that don’t get it. They’re not listening.
After making it home and eventually settling down, I considered browsing on the internet. Well, I did just that for awhile. Then my internet completely shut down. It was off all night. Does this happen all of the time? The answer is no, but it does happen way too often. The reason why: the only broadband service in town. They’re not listening.
