The Twitter Birds On A Branch In San Francisco
Social media has many twists and turns these days. I have been issued an invite (or so I thought at least) on my Facebook page to join members on Branch. From Facebook to Branch, and from Twitter to Branch, I’m making a tweet about Branch. It’s Obvious, that the cofounders (Biz Stone and Evan Williams along with Jason Goldman) of Twitter are going out on a limb with this one. (Retweet this branch or branch about this tweet, please.)
Branch could be the new Twitter-like tool that offers more room for dialogue, instead of the routine 140 characters. A platform more suitable for conversation, if you will.
Evan Williams elaborated on 3/6/2012:
Today, Obvious announced our partnership with Branch, makers of this fine conversational Internet product: obvious.com.
We’re still in early beta, but we wanted to invite some folks to try it out and ask any questions. Thanks.
We see a relationship between these conversations and not just the wider social sphere but the wider media sphere. We have news, and we have have commentary about the news—both short form and long. What Branch provides, in a sense, is the chance to overhear the cocktail party back-and-forth among people who have unique and interesting perspectives about events of the day—people whom you likely don’t know. This is something different and complimentary to both news and social spaces.
More specifically, we see these conversations being spawned by both news stories and social platforms. I could easily see starting a Branch based on a tweet.
A report from VentureBeat revealed that Branch has received almost $2 million in capital investment already.
