According to the New York Times, Netflix will start streaming a new series called Marco Polo. This is a massive undertaking, with a budget rumored to be around $90 million. You can watch Season 1 on December 12.
Reigning from 1260 to 1294, Kublai Khan was the 5th Khan of the Mongol Empire. Kublai was also a grandson of the historical legend Genghis Khan. Kublai established the Yuan dynasty and was considered to be the Emperor of China.
Literature enthusiasts may be aware of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s poem Kubla Khan. The summer garden at Xanadu is the key subject in the poem.
Even though Marco Polo was not the first European to reach China, he is noted for leaving behind a paper trail from his journeys. The Travels of Marco Polo (1300 AD), a four part volume, describes his travels in Asia, Persia, China, and Indonesia.
