The Koss PortaPro Headphones with Case are arguably the best cheap full-size headphones on the market and they’ve been a hit since 1984. They still deliver excellent sound quality, particularly for headphones in this price range. And guess what? Koss stands behind a lifetime warranty on these stereophones. How often does this happen?
The search for high quality cans is often a painful process for many of us. True audiophiles know the difference. Good cans mean something to us. Buying bad cans scar us emotionally for life.
I remember that nightmarish weekend when I bought a pair of bad cans. I was totally devastated. I paid around $50 for them and my hopes were extremely high. For once, just this one time, I didn’t read the reviews. If only I had been more diligent in my search, I could have spared myself the grief. Never again I say.
The cans were made by AUVIO (33-279). I will give credit on quality sound. To my anguish, just as soon as I gently laid these cans on a reclining chair, they became broken at the earpiece. These allegedly “concert class” stereo headphones gave me symptoms of emotional and psychological trauma for months to come. The healing process was going to be slow. Do not blame me if you buy overpriced, poor quality cans and suffer the unresolved trauma, because I told you so.
Another experience of cans I purchased had a slightly better outcome. They were silver on the earpieces, had a built in hidden microphone, a string-like cord, and were adjustable. Other than the plastic peeling from the earpieces and becoming unattached, the sound has been fantastic. They needed repair several times, and I suffered more pain due to the fact that there wasn’t a brand on these generic cans. I frantically searched for a name.
Maybe I’m just too sensitive when it comes to finding the best cans. I admit that my demand for more sophisticated headphones could have been misguided.
