    I am partial to the Whirlpool clothes washing machine, and I prefer the top loading one myself. I can tell you from previous experience, the older ones were built like tanks. Many have lasted 20 years and longer! This kind of service is getting hard to find these days.

  • Despite the bad reviews and lack of reviews, I would strongly consider the Whirlpool WTW4800XQ 27 Top-Load Washer 3.4 cu. ft. Capacity Quiet Spin Technology. This washer is in the $400 range and is considered a budget buy. This is my first choice. The one complaint on this washer and many of the new ones — the lid locks. Not really a big deal since you can get it to open by stopping the machine and restarting. Still considered a pain by some users.
  • Here’s a washer made in America! The Top Load Washer With 3.3 cu. ft. Stainless Steel Wash Tub is made by Speed Queen. The reviews give this one high marks. It looks promising, but the price is a bit higher than the Whirlpool — $789.00.
  • Another alternative one might consider is the GE GTWN3000MWS 27 Top-Load Washer, 3.6 cu. ft. Capacity. Some have had very good luck with GE washers.

    More Newspapers Charging For Online Access

    More newspapers are charging for online access and are asking a premium for the content.

    If you have enjoyed the free Los Angeles Times online newspaper of the past, be advised that the free is over. Digital access to the LA Times will cost you $3.99 a week.

    In case you haven’t noticed lately, there is blood on the newsroom floor in many towns across the United States.

    According to Newspaper Association of America, average U.S. daily circulation in 2006 on a typical weekday was 52.3 million (53.2 million on Sundays), compared with 62.5 million in 1986 (58.9 million on Sundays) and 57.0 million in 1996 (60.8 million on Sundays). According to NAA, daily ad revenues (not adjusted for inflation) reached their all-time peak in 2000, and by 2007 had fallen by 13%.

    It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the future. While traditional newsprint is in the decline, paradoxically, websurfers enjoy reading news online. The question is, will readers pay for online newspapers? This question has been hovering around the blogosphere for a few years now.

    Poynter media expert Bill Mitchell said that in order for a paywall to generate sustainable revenue, newspapers must create “new value” (higher quality, innovative, etcetera) in their online content that merits payment which previously free content did not.

    Keeping A Tomato Fresh

    Add A Tomato Saver To The Refrigerator Produce Bin

    Nothing like a crisp tomato to add flavor to any meal. The downfall is, if you fail to finish said tomato at once, you have to store it in the refrigerator. The tomato will turn mushy if not used quickly enough, hence you are often left with a soggy tomato of no value (aside from tossing at your pesky neighbors while they’re unaware, but don’t get any ideas). How, then, does one go about keeping a tomato fresh?

    Here’s a great place to start. The Tomato Saver by Gourmac looks cute, saves on the plastic bill, and also makes it easier to spot the tomato in the immeasurable void that is known as a refrigerator.

    Hey — the Tomato Saver may not change your life, but it looks nice, it works, it makes you look cool (it’s quite chic), and it would make a good gift for someone. Tomatoes sure cost a fortune at the supermarket these days! True?

    On May 10, 1893, in the Supreme Court case Nix v. Hedden, the court unanimously decided in favor of the defense and found that the tomato was classified as a vegetable, based on the ways in which it is used, and the popular perception to this end. So, in a legal sense, the tomato is a vegetable.

    Botanically, a tomato is a fruit.

    Kony Video Reminiscent Of Hitler Propaganda

    A recent video sensation titled Kony 2012 has saturated the American culture. The video raised millions of hits and was aired nationally. The recurring theme was a “bad boogieman” invading Uganda and killing innocent little children. It was later found out that this Kony guy had been totally absent in Uganda for well over five years. So, what’s all the hype really about?

    Christopher Greene of Greenwave.com suggests that that the Kony video supports a U.S. led invasion of Africa and is a “complete propaganda piece”.

    Alex Jones of Infowars is skeptical of this new agenda set in place and he has implied that many Americans have been misled into believing a false message of hope. Alex confirms that famous actors have been used to make the story believable to the American public.

    Jones comments: “It’s literally at a Sesame Street level in these Kony videos. This is so horrible. It’s so evil and it is the most sickeningly transparent propaganda I’ve ever seen”.

    Centre for Research on Globalization with the website called Global Research has offered a new title —  KONY 2012: State Propaganda for a New Generation. An Orchestrated Campaign to Justify US Military Intervention in Africa.

    Global Research Conclusion:

    KONY 2012 is a cleverly orchestrated campaign specifically aimed at today’s youth, the future citizens of the world. Using state-of-the-art techniques and new technologies, the campaign is a first attempt at “reverse propaganda”, where the agenda APPEARS to emanate from the people. By using emotions, irrational thoughts and superficial explanations, KONY 2012 attempts to trick well-meaning people, who desire to make a positive change in the world, to instead fuel a gigantic war machine that is controlled by the world’s elite.

    Is KONY 2012 trying to eradicate child-soldiers or is it attempting to create a new kind of child-soldiers?

    Is the Kony video reminiscent of Hitler propaganda using the Hitler Youth? Is the primary aim to instill motivation that enables members of youth, as soldiers, to fight faithfully for the next cause of American invasion?

    The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism

    A Sobering Analysis Of American Policy And The Limits of Power

    Respected author Andrew Bacevich has an important message to present to the American people. The item he refers to as American Exceptionalism could be in dire jeopardy. Although it’s not his most recent book, The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism (American Empire Project) is a must read for any American that wants a closer look at power and America’s role in the world today.

    He speaks as a soldier, professor, historian, and as a grieving father.

    Andrew Bacevich is a very straightforward writer and sticks to his theme without wavering. While America has blamed President George W. Bush and the Iraq war for much of our current international issues, Bacevich provides more insight of American imperialism. And that’s not to say that he’s a fan of George W. Bush or the Iraq war. He is a vocal critic of the U.S. occupation of Iraq, labeling the conflict as a catastrophic failure.

    The Iraq war is quite personal with Bacevich. His son, also an Army officer, died fighting in the Iraq War in May 2007. This is a subject that is too painful for him to discuss.

    According to Bacevich, the American idealism that is often painted in the media and around the globe is illusory. Bacevich suggests that the new paradigm shift of global domination is far overreaching and is bankrupting the country.

    The Limits of Power makes the argument that there are indeed limits of authority, even for the United States. This powerful book shares what drives policy and institutions.

    Professor Bacevich is an incredibly profound author and his critique is illuminating. The Limits of Power is eloquent and is very thought provoking. It’s a must read and most likely a re-read. Well written, sharp, and exceptional.

    Historian Andrew Bacevich appears on Bill Moyers’ new show, Moyers & Company, this weekend on most PBS local stations. Bacevich and Moyers explore the futility of “endless” wars, and provide a reality check on the rhetoric of American exceptionalism.

    Trayvon Martin Case Shocks The Nation

    Be prepared to hear the Trayvon Martin case that has shocked the nation. This tragic story has already caused a million person march and more can be expected to come. The teenager in suburban Orlando was shot and killed on February 26, 2012. Here is a timeline of the events provided by ABC News.

    George Zimmerman made a controversial 911 call and told the dispatcher that some guy looked suspicious in the neighborhood. Zimmerman was supposedly the neighborhood watch captain. It is widely known that Zimmerman pursued Martin even after he had been told not to. Zimmerman’s story doesn’t sound credible at all, but judge for yourself.

    There is eyewitness video of a neighbor stating that Zimmerman did not shoot in self defense. It is popular consensus that Zimmerman shot and murdered seventeen-year-old Martin at will, without a clear defense.

    The case was initially published on ABC, and video can be found on the website.

    In this very disturbing video, you can hear the young Trayvon Martin screaming for help. You can hear the gunshot being fired. Be warned ahead of time, because the audio is dramatic and hard to listen to.

    It’s hard to believe Zimmerman’s story that the young kid was causing trouble when you can hear his dying screams on the footage. Zimmerman looks to be bigger in size than Martin and he is twenty eight years old.

    Martin was on a cell phone with a 16-year-old girl right up until he was attacked by Zimmerman. The girl says she believes that Martin was pushed by someone, because the cell phone was knocked out of his hands just prior to the shooting.

    What has caused public uproar is the fact that Zimmerman has not been jailed, and many people believe that Zimmerman killed the unarmed teenager in cold blood. There have been rallies and petitions demanding justice.

    Ten Ghost Peppers In Five Minutes

    In a previous video, the guy who calls himself Ted the fire-breathing-idiot attempted to eat ten ghost peppers and failed. He had a really bad experience and was vomiting, with blood coming out of the nose. This time he claims he accomplished his goal. He ate ten ghost peppers in five minutes.

    Ted maintains: The fastest time to eat 3 Bhut Jolokia Chilis is 1 minute 11 seconds and was achieved by Birgit Tack (Germany) on the set of Guinness World Records – Wir holen den Rekord nach Deutschland in Berlin, Germany, on 2 April 2011.

    The Bhut Jolokia was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the hottest chili pepper in the world. It’s 401.5 times hotter than Tabasco sauce!

    The Bhut Jolokia grows in the Indian states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. It can also be found in rural Sri Lanka where it is known as Nai Mirris (cobra chili).

    California Man Cuts Hand Off

    News from ADELANTO. A California man intentionally cut his hand off on Wednesday 21, 2012, and had to be airlifted, according to the Victorville Daily Press.

    From The Daily Press:

    A Sheriff’s dispatcher received a call at 1:23 p.m. and responded to an apartment in the 18000 block of Montezuma Street in Adelanto. The unidentified man, who wasn’t the one to call 911, was found with a self-inflicted wound, Sheriff’s Sgt. Shelley Krusbe said. It wasn’t clear why he cut off his hand or whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

    The man was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center, Krusbe said. Details on his condition were not immediately released.

    Turn Your Phone Into A Walkie-Talkie App

    Will you use Voxer? You know, the app that lets you turn your iPhone and Android into a walkie-talkie. Some call it audio texting while others call it voice texting. Wasn’t that what the cell phone was for? Audio check anyone?

    Voxer is a Walkie Talkie application for smartphones. Voxer lets you send instant audio, text and photo messages to your friends (one or more!). Messages stream live as you talk and your friends join you live or listen later.

    Voxer is available for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android devices. This app can be integrated with Facebook.

    Can Grandma use this app and will it be useful? It was featured on the Today Show this morning, so it must be getting popular. Voxer was in the top 25 tech apps in January of 2012, and is probably in the top 10 by now.

    Who would have guessed? Good old voice apps the latest hot trend? That’s getting social!

    Voice integration, social media, and connecting with others. Sounds just like a walkie-talkie doesn’t it?

    Hmmm. Breaker, breaker good buddy. You got a copy? Well, maybe I’ll just leave a message if ya don’t mind. Over over? You’re boomin’ in here good buddy…
