What are the reasons causing mainstream media to lose the audience? The inefficacy is blatantly obvious by now. Do you faithfully follow the pretext?
The Today Show from NBC is struggling with ratings and there’s chatter of replacing Ann Curry. Are they using Ms. Curry as the scapegoat? Savannah Guthrie is thought to be the replacement for Curry.
A much deeper question rises to the fore. Has the mainstream media lost its credibility? Has it lost its relevance in society? Does the public trust the media anymore?
The copy desk of today is a copy and paste system that avoids complex issues. The unpopular realities are predicably omitted and replaced with easy softball questions that are inoffensive. The so called news specialists rarely confront their guests directly. The goal is to patter instead of pursuing with hard-hitting journalism.
Exclusion is the default and self censorship is the immovable paradigm shift. Omission is the greatest form of bias by media.
Western media is theater that always validates the narrative. A 2002 study concluded “that investigative journalism has all but disappeared from the nation’s commercial airwaves.”
The public isn’t always getting truth in the news through the mainstream media, so they are turning to alternative media and other sources online. Citizen journalism may not always get the proper funding, but with realtime streaming it is incontestably effective.
The monopolization the western media once held may be losing the arena to a diversification of news outlets around the world. Alternative views are damaging to views of U.S. propaganda efforts. This has turned into an information war and mainstream media may be losing the battle.
Are the days of a U.S. media monopoly over? Will a sophisticated global audience demand alternative points of view? Will the media spin continue? Who benefits from the spin?
