Where do we stand with ATSC 3.0? There are two things to make a note of (ATSC 3.0 Roll Out and FCC TV Channel Repack).
Item 1: The realignment of the U.S. TV spectrum is happening.
Item 2: ATSC 3.0 is the world’s first IP based broadcast service.
Channels 27 through 51 will not be transmitting on the current operating frequencies. These channels will supposedly be emptied.
ATSC 3.0 is not compatible with the current ATSC 1.0 standard. However, the transition should be a smooth and slow one. Both should be offered for some time.
What is OFDM? Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a method of encoding digital data on multiple carrier frequencies.
If you’re skeptical about new government mandates, here’s a FCC proposal to consider. “On February 2, 2017, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) which would allow for the deployment of ATSC 3.0.” What is ATSC 3.0 you ask?
The latest in TV technology is ATSC 3.0, created by the Advanced Television Systems Committee. “ATSC 3.0 will support mobile television, 3D television, 4K UHD, high dynamic range (HDR), high frame rate (HFR), and wide color gamut (WCG).”
FUTURECAST is a physical layer of ATSC 3.0 technology, which features the next generation in broadcast systems.
How many of you knew that the past world series was broadcasted in 4K UHD with ATSC 3.0 technology? It was a Cleveland station (WJW) which was given the honors.
Updates will be given at this website: ATSC.
